My name is Leah Odam, and I am married to Jo Jo Odam who is also a teacher and coach within the Piedmont City School System. We have two sons, Preston and Alex.
My inspiration for becoming a teacher is my mom who taught for 33 years. I remember going to places such as the grocery store, and students (both current and former) coming up to my mom and hugging her and telling her what a positive impact she had on their lives. My mom taught me that is just as important to let each student know that he/she is cared for and respected as it is to teach him/her the academics each student needs.
My favorite quote comes from my best-loved novel, The Great Gatsby. The character Nick was given the following advice from his father, and I think it stands the test of time: “Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone, just remember that all of the people in the world haven’t had the advantages that you’ve had.”
